Pack Takes Event Win, Five All-Time Program Marks on Day One of Wake Forest Invite, Virginia Challenge

RALEIGH - The NC State track and field team returned to action last night, picking up an event win and five all-time top-10 program marks at the Wake Forest Invite and Virginia Challenge.
HOW IT HAPPENED: WAKE FOREST INVITE
Middle-Distance
Brett Gardner took home the lone event win of the night for the Wolfpack in the men's 3000m steeplechase. The veteran runner clocked in at 8:43.53 to take the victory. Matt Bogdan also ran in the event, running a time of 8:55.23 to set a new personal best.
In the women's 3000m steeplechase, freshman Angelina Napoleon continued to shine in her first year in the Red and White, clocking in at 10:07.11 to finish sixth and establish a new PR and the fifth-fastest mark in NC State history.
More names were shuffled in the history books in the women's 1500m invite. Sam Bush was the first Pack runner across the finish line, coming in at 4:10.92 to record a new personal best and submit the third-best time in program history.Â
Hannah Gapes also achieved an all-time program mark in the event. The New Zealand Native finished the race in 4:16.57 to break her own PR and mark her time as the 10th-best in the record book. First-year runner Kate Putman also competed, setting a new personal best with a time of 4:24.11.
After breaking the school record for the men's 800m last week, Zach Hughes continued his mid-season success with a personal-best time in the men's 1500m. Hughes clocked in at 3:42.63 to finish third overall and establish the fourth-best mark in Pack history.
Miles Ally (3:51.36) and Ryan Motondo (3:53.32) also set new personal records in the event.
With a time of 3:42.63 in the men's 800m, Grant Howlett finished with a new personal-best mark and the eighth-best time in school history.
Distance
Amaris Tyynismaa achieved a podium finish in the women's 5000m invite with a third-place finish of 15:40.81.
Fellow cross country National Champion Grace Hartman also ran in the event and finished fifth overall with a personal-best time of 15:46.71. Joining her teammates inside the top-10 was Leah Stephens, who timed-in at 15:50.34 to finish seventh.
Briley Bickerstaff also ran in the event and set a new PR with a mark of 16:46.87.

In the women's javelin, Jakerra Covington turned in a mark of 40.65m.
