Track & Field Opens Season at Gamecock Opener

COLUMBIA, S.C. - The NC State track and field programs opened 2021 on Saturday, competing at the Gamecock Opener.
SPRINTS
Three members of the Pack recorded times in the 60m hurdles preliminaries that sent them to the finals in the event and earned them each a top-10 finish in program history. In the finals, sophomore Ally Henson posted an 8.67 to tab a third-place finish while Mikieja Covington recorded an 8.84 mark. Alexis Postell's 8.84 in the semifinals qualified her for the finals as well. Â
Freshman Mia D'Ambrosio made her collegiate debut in the 60m dash preliminaries at the Gamecock Opener, qualifying for the finals with a 7.71. The Princetown, N.Y. native took home her first podium finish, claiming third place with a 7.70 in the finals.
JUMPS
In the women's long jump, senior Michelle Cobb recorded her first podium finish of the season. The Asheville, N.C., native posted a 18'3.25" (5.57m).Â
Chris Alexander jumped a 50'5.25" (15.37m) in the triple jump to take third in the event.
THROWS
In the men's weight throw, redshirt senior Tyson Fortenberry claimed the third-place spot with a mark of 56'3" (17.14m).
On the women's side, Kayla Beasley achieved a third-place finish weight throw. Her 55'7" (16.94) mark was good for a weight throw personal best.Â
UP NEXT
The Wolfpack travels to Blacksburg, Va., for the Hokie Invitational Jan. 22-23.
