21 from NC State Selected to Compete at NCAA East Preliminary Meet

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. -- NC State is set to send 21 athletes to the NCAA East Preliminary Meet in Jacksonville, Fla., marking the most athletes for the Pack since 2016. The meet will be hosted by the University of North Florida at Hodges Stadium Thursday, May 23-Saturday, May 25.

Four Pack athletes earned at least two entries into the meet: Gabriele Cunningham, Nevada Mareno, Cravont Charleston, and Jamar Davis.

Cunningham will be one of two representatives for the Pack women sprinters, running in the 100m and 100m hurdles. The senior is coming off an impressive ACC Outdoor Championship performance for the team, scoring 14 points, including a bronze-medal finish in the women's 100m hurdles with a season-best 13.13 mark.

Freshman teammate McKenzie Long will compete in the 200m.

On the men's side, Charleston is set to compete in the 100m and 200m races, and teammates Quashawn Cunningham and Shannon Patterson will join Charleston in the 200m dash.

The Pack sends nine distance and mid-distance runners combined to the NCAA East Preliminary Meet. Clairmonte (5000m) looks to continue her success from the conference championship after a third-place finish in the women's 5000m. Freshman Nevada Mareno will join Clairmonte in the 5000m and will also compete in the 1500m.

In the men's and women's 3000m steeplechase, NC State will be represented by Gavin Gaynor, Nell Crosby, and Julia Zachgo.

Ian Shanklin, Patrick Sheehan, and Ben Barrett posted times that qualify for the 5000m. JP Flavin, running in the 10,000m, is also featured in the NC State men's distance category.

With six entries in jumps, Janel Pate (long jump), Michelle Cobb (triple jump), Javonne Antoine (triple jump), Davis (long jump, triple jump), and Von Douglas (long jump) are set to compete in Florida for the Pack.

Lauren Evans aims for back-to-back NCAA Championships trips in the women's shot put, qualifying in the event for the fourth consecutive year after a personal-best performance at the conference championships to claim the title.

In the men's discus, Tyson Fortenberry will throw for the Pack.
