Track and Field Breaks School Records at Clemson Orange & Purple Elite

CLEMSON, S.C. -- The NC State men's and women's track and field teams competed at the Clemson Orange & Purple Elite on Friday, Jan. 11 in Clemson, S.C. at the Clemson Indoor Track & Field Complex. Cravont Charleston broke the NC State men's track and field indoor 60m dash record with a time of 6.59 in the men's 60m dash final.Â
Gabriele Cunningham also set a new indoor school mark in the 300m dash (38.78).
Lauren Evans took home two first-place finishes on Friday in women's shot put and weight throw.
Throws:
Lauren Evans, the ACC's December Women's Field Performer of the Month, remains undefeated in the 2018-19 indoor track and field indoor season, as she captured the women's weight throw title Friday, recording a throw of 19.85m, well above the ACC Indoor Championships qualifying mark of 17.63m. She also finished first in the women's shot put competition with a mark of 51'1.75" (15.59m).
Jumps:
Grant Rivers took home third place in the men's high jump competition, posting a 6'5" (1.96m) mark.Â
In women's long jump, Janel Pate took home third place for the Pack with a mark of 18'5.25" (5.62m), while teammate Mikieja Covington trailed closed behind, placing fourth with a mark of 18'5" (5.61m).
Jamar Davis's Wolfpack track and field debut ended in a third-place finish in men's long jump, recording a 24'1" (7.34m) jump. Teammate Von Douglas placed fourth with a mark of 24'0.25" (7.32m).
Davis also placed third in men's triple jump with a mark of 48'10" (14.88m).
Sprints/Hurdles:
In the men's 60m dash prelims, all three Pack members qualified for the finals. Cravont Charleston (6.68), Alexander Lang (6.82), and Quashawn Cunningham (6.87) recorded ACC Indoor Championships qualifying times (6.87).
Charleston would go on to set a new indoor school record in the men's 60m dash finals with a time of 6.59. The record was previously held by A'Tolani Akinkuoto (6.60).
Gabriele Cunningham set the NC State women's indoor 300m dash school record with a 38.78 mark to win the event on Friday. The record was previously held by Ariah Graham, set in 2013 (39.04). Teammate McKenzie Long took home second-place honors with a time of 39.48.
Janel Pate's 60m dash time (7.68) in the prelims qualified her for the 60m dash finals.
Jada Griffin had a personal-best in the women's 400m with a 56.93 mark.

Anna Vess led the Pack in a podium sweep in the women's 1000m. Vess recorded a personal-best 2:54.12 to win the event. Teammates Julia Zachgo (2:54.54) and Emma Ferguson (2:54.89) finished second and third respectively.
