
Wolfpack Earns New School Record on Day One of JDL DMR Invite, VT Challenge

RALEIGH - The NC State track and field team kicked off day one action at the JDL DMR Invite in Winston-Salem, NC and the Virginia Tech Challenge in Blacksburg, Va., earning a new school record and seeing three athletes set new personal best marks.
DISTANCE
The grouping of Savannah Shaw, Timara Chapman, Sam Bush, and Katelyn Tuohy earned first place in the women's distance medley at the JDL DMR Invite with a time of 10:55.49, setting a new school and facility record for the event. Their converted time of 10:48.55 sits at number two on the women's NCAA indoor qualifying list.
SPRINTS
At the Virginia Tech Challenge, Jakerra Covington finished eighth with a time of 9.46 in the women's 60m hurdle prelims to advance to the final where she claimed seventh with a mark of 9.34.
In the men's 60m, Alex Nunley took fifth place, clocking in at 6.97.
THROWS
Nathan Lau continued an impressive season in the men's weight throw, claiming second place and setting a new personal best with a toss of 17.15m (56'3.25").
The Wolfpack earned two podium finishes in the women's weight throw thanks to Makala Wright and Sydney Freeman. Wright registered a throw of 18.10m (59'4.75") to take second place and record the eighth-best mark in NC State history, while Freeman took third and set a new personal best with her effort of 17.47m (57'3.75").
Mahkayla Hart also competed in the event, finishing in fifth place with a throw of 17.06m (55'11.75").
Another personal best mark was set in the women's long jump, with Covington registering a leap of 5.25m (17'2.75") to claim sixth.

The Wolfpack will continue action at the JDL DMR Invite and the VT Challenge on Saturday, February 18.
