
Griffin Takes Down School Record on First Day of VT Invite

BLACKSBURG, Va. - The NC State track & field programs opened 2022 action on Friday, competing at the VT Invite. Two members of the Pack earned podium finishes, and graduate student Jada Griffin posted a school record-breaking time in the women's 300m
DISTANCE
NC State's first running event of the meet saw four members of the Pack compete in the men's 1000m. Jake Toomey (2:28.49), Zach Hughes (2:28.61) and Miles Ally (2:31.74) each recorded a PR in the event.
JUMPS
Michelle Cobb opened her 2022 season with a second-place finish in the women's triple jump. The Asheville, N.C., native's jump of 12.21m (40'0.75") ranked 14th nationally.
Fellow jumper Jirah Sidberry posted a PR in the women's triple jump with a mark of 11.92m (39'1.75"), and her jump checked into the NC State record book as the 10th-best in program history.
In the men's triple jump, Chris Alexander recorded the 16th-best mark in the country with a 15.55m (51'1.25") while Jamar Davis' 15.21m (49'11") mark was good for 18th-best in the NCAA.
SPRINTS
In the women's 60m hurdles prelims, Timara Chapman led the way for the Wolfpack with a personal-best performance. Her time of 8.64 was good for the seventh-best program mark, and she recorded the same time in the final to place sixth.
Caroline Lewis clocked the second-fastest time in Wolfpack history in the 500m, recording a 1:18.40 for a personal record.
Griffin set a women's 300m program record with her personal-best time of 38.29. The mark additionally earned her a first-place finish in the event. Imunique Archie (42.72) and Ally Henson (43.03) ran in the 300m as well, each earning a PR.
Cameron Murray (35.58), Henry Young (36.52), Isaiah Gadson (37.77) and Alexander Lang (37.78) all ran personal records in the men's 300m. Murray's mark was good for the 10th-best time in program history.
THROWS
Andrew Haberman and Lance Penegar represented NC State in the men's weight throw, each earning a PR. Haberman placed eighth with his mark of 18.29m (60'0.25") while Penegar finished in 13th with a 16.28m (53'5") throw.
On the women's side, Makala Wright and Mahkayla Hart each threw for PRs in the weight throw. Wright posted a 16.54m (54'3.25") while Hart tabbed a 16.40m (53'9.75").
