The contest was a slugfest that featured a combined nine home runs as well as six lead changes and four ties between the Wolfpack and Demon Deacons.
Brock Wilken's two-run home run in the first put the Demon Deacons on the board early, but Jonny Butler cut the Pack's deficit in half as he led off the side with an infield single and scored from third on a two-out two-base error.
Tyler McDonough knotted the score at two in the third when he crushed a two-out solo shot to right field, which was his team-leading 10th long ball of the season, but Wake took its lead back in the bottom of the frame thanks to Bobby Seymour's two-run homer to center field.
NC State took its first lead of the night in the fourth when Devonte Brown and Terrell Tatum drove in a combined three runs on back-to-back home runs, making the score 5-4, but Wake's Shane Muntz managed to lead off the home half of the inning with a solo shot to right center to tie things back up.
Seymour left the park for the second time of the night in the fifth inning to give the Demon Deacons a narrow 6-5 lead.
Tatum went yard for the second time of the game in the sixth to tie knot the score up at six, but Pierce Bennett allowed Wake to once again take a one-run lead in the bottom half of the inning as he led off with single to right field and a two-base error and wild pitch brought him home.
With runners at first and second with two outs in the seventh, Jonny Butler stepped up big and launched a three-run homer run over the right field wall to give the Pack a 9-7 lead.
In the eighth, a three-base error after Brown and Tatum drew back-to-back walks followed by an Austin Murr RBI double and a Luca Tresh RBI single plated four runs to extend NC State's lead to 13-7.
Reliever Evan Justice tossed three shutout innings to help propel the Pack to the series-opening victory as he picked up his fourth save of the season.
