
Pack Concludes Competition at Virginia Challenge, Duke Invitational

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. and DURHAM, N.C. – The NC State track and field team concluded competition at the Virginia Challenge and Duke Invitational on Saturday with four podium finishes between the two meets. The Pack brings home two event titles from the Virginia Challenge on Saturday, one in the men's long jump (Von Douglas) and one in the men's 4x100m relay (Cravont Charleston, Quashawn Cunningham, Alexander Lang, and Shannon Patterson). The team also hit 11 ACC Championship qualifying standards.
Sprints: Gabriele Cunningham outran the conference qualifying standard (13.78) in the women's 100m hurdles, clocking in at 13.32. Her time was good for a fourth-place finish and was the second-fastest by a collegiate sprinter in the race.
Teammate Alexis Postell clocked in at 14.25, registering at fifth-fastest time in school history.
Ares Epps clocked in at 1:52.59 in the men's 800m invitational.
Distance: Kyle Christ set a new personal-best in the men's 1500m, finishing in 4:04.96. Teammate Noah Graham followed closely behind in 4:05.01.
On Friday, Rebekah Greengrass took home third-place honors in the women's 5000m race with a 17:45.21 mark.
Nell Crosby's 10:08.87 mark in the women's 3000m steeplechase invitational earned her second place out of a field of 27. Her performance sits at No. 9 nationally and is faster than the conference qualifying standard (10:48.77).
Teammate Julia Zachgo finished the race in 11:01.90.
Patrick Sheehan (3:52.54), Epps, (3:55.90), Tanis Baldwin (3:57.79), and Gavin Gaynor (3:59.69) competed in the men's 1500m invitational.
On the women's side, Nevada Mareno finished the women's 1500m invitational in 4:18.44, faster than the ACC qualifying mark (4:25.93). Mareno finished in seventh place, and her time stands in the top 10 in the program record books.
Heather Holt, Ryen Frazier, and Megan Rempel also competed in the race, clocking in at 4:31.35, 4:55.65, and 4:55.93 respectively.
In the women's 5000m invitational, Dominique Clairmonte finished in 16:04.68, outrunning the 16:46.20 ACC qualifying mark, as did Isabel Zimmermann with a time of 16:44.10.
Throws: Lauren Evans' 52'6" (16.00m) mark earned a fifth-place finish in the women's shot put invitational. Her performance also outdid the conference qualifying standard (14.18m).
Tyson Fortenberry threw for 146'10" (44.75m) in men's discus throw at the Virginia Challenge, and William Pruden threw for 146'11" (44.79m) at the Duke Invitational.
Jumps: Von Douglas claimed the men's long jump title with a 24'11" (7.59m) jump. In the men's long jump invitational, Jamar Davis out-jumped the ACC qualifying standard with a 24'3.75" (7.41m) mark.
Janel Pate continued NC State's long jump success in the women's invitational with a 20'3.75" (6.19m) mark, placing third. Pate's jump sits at No. 4 in the NC State record books and is farther than the conference qualifying standard (5.84m).
Javonne Antoine placed fifth in women's long jump competition with a 19'2.5" (5.88m) mark, exceeding the ACC Outdoor Championship qualifying standard (5.84m).
In the men's triple jump invitational, Davis outjumped the conference qualifying mark (14.39), recording a 50'10" (15.49m) jump.
On the women's side, Michelle Cobb's 41'3" (12.57m) jump registered as a top-10 mark in school history and is farther than the conference qualifying standard (12.26m).
Relays: Cravont Charleston, Quashawn Cunningham, Alexander Lang, and Shannon Patterson raced in the men's 4x100m relay, taking first place with a time of 40.29.
