Pack Comes Out Strong at Tennessee Relays, Charlotte Invitational

KNOXVILLE, Tenn. and CHARLOTTE, N.C. -- The NC State track and field team competed at the Tennessee Relays and Charlotte Invitational on Friday. The Pack came out strong, hitting ACC Outdoor Track & Field Championships qualifying marks, setting personal-bests, and collecting six podium finishes.
Distance: Nevada Mareno (4:17.45) and Dominique Clairmonte (4:18.67) took first and second place respectively in the women's 1500m invite. Mareno's time is third-best in the school record books and Clairmonte's time ranks seventh best.
The two outran the conference qualifying standard of 4:25.93, as did Julia Zachgo with a time of 4:25.46.
Heather Holt set a new personal-best in the invite, clocking in at 4:28.17.
In the men's 1500m invite, four Pack competitors set new PRs (Patrick Sheehan, Gavin Gaynor, Tanis Baldwin, Noah Graham).
Sheehan (3:49.66), Gaynor (3:49.75), and Ian Shanklin (3:50.40) swept the podium in the event.
Graham outran his previous career-best time, completing the men's 1500m invite in 4:00.63 for a top-10 finish.
Sprints: With three top-20 finishes in the women's 100m hurdles, Alexis Postell led the way for the Pack, finishing in 14.01. Timara Chapman (14.12) and Mikieja Covington (14.20) rounded out the top-20 performances for the Pack.
In the men's 100m dash, Quashawn Cunningham (10.43) outran the ACC qualifying standard of 10.69.
Finishing in 2:13.50 in the women's 800m invite, Janay Hall took home silver-medal honors.
Ares Epps (1:51.28) and Philip Hall (1:52.79) took fourth and eighth place respectively in the men's 800m invite. Epps' time is eighth-fastest in school history.
In the women's 200m dash, Gabriele Cunningham clocked in below the ACC qualifying standard with a time of 23.43, tied for third-fastest in school history.
In the men's 200m dash, Cravont Charleston posted the Pack's top time, finishing in 20.81. Alan Alvarez set a new personal-best with a time of 21.67.
Jumps: Janel Pate's 19'8" (5.99m) mark in women's long jump was farther than the conference qualifying standard (5.84m) and earned her eighth place on the day.
On the men's side, Jamar Davis (24'11.75", 7.61m) and Von Douglas (24'7", 7.49m) posted fourth and fifth-place finishes in long jump, out-jumping the ACC qualifying mark (7.08m). Davis' performance set a new personal best.
Throws: Lauren Evans' 51'6.5" (15.71m) throw in women's shot put was longer than the conference qualifying standard (14.18m).
