Charleston Breaks Own 60m Dash Record at Tiger Paw Invite

The track and field teams competed at the Iowa State Classic and at the Tiger Paw Invite

AMES, Iowa and CLEMSON, S.C. -- The NC State men's and women's track and field teams set eight personal-bests at the Iowa State Classic and at the Clemson Tiger Paw Invitational on Friday. Cravont Charleston outran his own school record for a gold-medal finish in the men's 60m dash with a time of 6.54.

Lauren Evans threw for her 13th straight podium finish with a 53'7" (16.33) mark in women's shot put. She has placed on the podium in every event she has competed in this season.

Jumps: Janel Pate recorded a top-ten finish in women's long jump with a 19'1.5" (5.83m) mark, placing 10th out of a field of 36.

In men's long jump, Von Douglas earned a fifth-place finish, recording a 24'5" (7.44m) jump.

Sprints: Charleston has bested his own 60m dash record twice this year, as most recently notched a 6.54 mark that beat out the 6.56 he clocked earlier this season.

Gabriele Cunningham qualified for the women's 60m dash finals, clocking a 7.30. McKenzie Long clocked a personal-best 7.43 in the women's 60m dash qualifier to advance to the prelims. She then outran her PR set earlier on Friday, running a 7.39 in the 60m dash prelim. Clocking in at 7.39, Long recorded NC State's fourth-fastest time in program history and the fastest time for a freshman in program history.

Cunningham earned a fourth-place finish in the women's 60m hurdles final with a time of 8.21.

In the women's 400m, Jada Griffin recorded a personal-best 55.46, placing her in the top ten for the event and fourth all-time in the NC State record books.

Will Hoffmann ran a personal-best in the men's 400m dash, recording a 49.81.

Distance: Anna Vess clocked a 4:46.12 in the women's mile, a personal best, to take silver-medal honors in the women's mile. Emma Ferguson also finished in the top 10, finishing seventh, with a time of 4:54.79.

Nell Crosby and Isabel Zimmermann's times of 16:33.01 and 16:36.32 in the women's 5000m are both faster than the ACC Indoor Championships qualifying mark (16:45.17).

Patrick Sheehan and JP Flavin set personal-bests in the men's 5000m.
