Evans Wins ACC Shot Put Title, Men Finish Third at #ACCITF Championships

BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The NC State men's and women's track and field teams finished third (61 pts.) and sixth (58 pts.) respectively at the 2019 ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships in Blacksburg, Va.
The men's third-place finish is the best since 2011, and the women's sixth-place finish is the best since 2015.
On the weekend, NC State won three ACC titles (Grant Rivers - heptathlon, Ian Shanklin - 5000m, Lauren Evans - shot put) and garnered 17 all-conference honors, including 11 First Team All-ACC accolades.
The men recorded seven first-team honors by five individuals, which is the most individuals to earn first-team accolades since 2003, when the Pack collected nine.
The women had four competitors earn first-team status, the most since 2014.
The Florida State and Virginia Tech men claimed a share of the team title, as Florida State notched out Virginia Tech in the 4x400m relay to earn a piece of the hardware. On the women's side, Miami took top honors with 91 points.
Lauren Evans recorded her first ACC title and the Pack's third of the weekend, capturing her 13th win of the season with a 53'11.75" (16.45m) mark.
Her first round throw earned her the victory and First Team All-ACC honors, and stands as the third-best mark in program history. Evans' victory is the first NC State conference title in women's shot put since 2013.
Collecting all-conference honors in back-to-back indoor seasons in shot put, Evans has garnered conference accolades a total of three times in two seasons.
Freshman Jamar Davis collected his second silver-medal in as many days in triple jump with a career-best 52'6.5" (16.01m) mark, No. 3 in the NC State record books.
Notched by Louisville's Wasike by .33, 2018 3000m champion Elly Henes took home second place in the 3000m with a time of 9:24.38, earning all-conference honors for the third consecutive indoor season.
Ian Shanklin, after winning the 5000m Friday, clocked a time of 8:03.15 in the 3000m, good for a third-place finish and first team all-conference honors.
Gabriele Cunningham outran the 200m dash school record, clocking a 23.67 to claim bronze-medal honors, along with a first team all-conference accolade, the first of her career in indoor competition.
Cunningham collected another all-conference honor, earning a spot on the second team with a fifth-place finish in the 60m hurdles final (8.18). Her time also ranks third-fastest in school history.
Cunningham followed up her hurdles performance with another Second Team All-ACC honor in the 60m dash, clocking a 7.37. Her mark is second-fastest in the NC State record books.
Dominique Clairmonte earned Second Team All-ACC honors, clocking a 4:44.89 in the women's mile final for a fifth-place finish.
In the men's mile, Philip Hall's personal-best 4:04.89 earned him bronze-medal honors and a spot on the all-conference first team. With his time, Hall entered the top 10 in mile times in the NC State record books.
In the men's 60m dash, Cravont Charleston earned his third all-conference honor of his career with a time of 6.67, collecting bronze-medal honors. His time ranks fourth all-time for NC State.
Clocking a 21.42, Quashawn Cunningham placed fourth in the 200m final, earning second team all-conference status.
With a career-best 41'7.75" (12.69m) jump, Michelle Cobb's performance is fourth-best in school history and garnered Second Team All-ACC honors, for the second consecutive season.
The women's 4x400m relay team consisting of McKenzie Long, Jada Griffin, Cunningham, and Alexis Postell set a new school record, clocking in at 3:44.51.
