
Rivers, Shanklin Capture ACC Titles on Second Day at #ACCITFChampionships

BLACKSBURG, Va. – The NC State track and field team won two ACC titles on the second day of competition at the ACC Indoor Track and Field Championships. Grant Rivers and Ian Shanklin earned gold-medal honors to headline the Pack's performance on Friday, earning First-Team All-ACC Honors along with Jamar Davis.
The men's team is third in the team standings at the end of day two and the women sit tied for seventh.
Grant Rivers won the Pack's first ACC title of the weekend in the heptathlon with 5,177 pts, a new school record. The Hendersonville, N.C., native tied his personal-best in pole vault in the heptathlon, catapulting him into first place, leading by 106 pts., with only the 1000m left in competition.
Ian Shanklin collected NC State's second ACC title of the day, winning a tight men's 5000m race with a time of 14:03.53.
NC State earned eight spots in the finals tomorrow. The women will be represented in the mile, 60m hurdles, 60m dash, and 200m prelim. On the men's side, the Pack will compete in the mile, 60m dash, and 200m dash.
Gabriele Cunningham recorded an 8.09 mark in the women's 60m hurdles and will compete tomorrow in the finals. In the 60m dash, Cunningham qualified for the finals with the third-fastest time in the prelims and the second-fastest time in school history.
Rounding out the night, Cunningham would qualify for her third event tomorrow in the women's 200m dash, clocking in at 23.93. That time sits at No. 4 in program history.
NC State will be represented in both the men's and women's 60m dash finals tomorrow, as Cravont Charleston turned in a 6.70, fourth in the NC State record books, to continue competition tomorrow.
Dominique Clairmonte qualified for the women's mile finals tomorrow, clocking a 4:40.38, second-fastest in the prelims and seventh-fastest in school history.
In the men's mile, Philip Hall (4:06.70) and Gavin Gaynor (4:07.98) set new personal-bests to qualify for the finals. Hall's mark was the fastest of the prelims.
