NC State Sets School Record on Final Day at Hokie Invitational

Wolfpack records five podium finishes on Saturday
BLACKSBURG, Va. -- The NC State men's and women's track and field teams wrapped up competition at the Hokie Invitational at Rector Field House in Blacksburg, Va., Saturday, as the women's 4x400m relay team consisting of Alexis Postell, Gabriele Cunningham, McKenzie Long, and Jada Griffin set a new school record. Today's record marks the fifth school record the men's and women's teams have broken combined in the 2018-19 indoor season.
The Wolfpack tallied five podium finishes and hit six ACC Indoor Track & Field Championships qualifying marks on Saturday, including Lauren Evans collecting her seventh first-place finish of the indoor season. On Friday and Saturday combined, NC State found a place on the podium nine times.
Throws: Evans recorded a gold-medal finish in women's shot put with a 54'4" (16.56m) mark.
Gabriel King threw for a personal-best 47'5" (14.45m) in men's shot put competition.
Jumps: Michelle Cobb turned in a personal-best 17'10.25" (5.45m) mark in women's long jump, while Timara Chapman set a personal-best in women's high jump, recording a 5'2.25" (1.58m) jump.
Von Douglas's 24'7" (7.49m) jump earned him a silver-medal finish in men's long jump and was well beyond the 7.05m ACC Indoor Championships qualifying mark. Jamar Davis also out-jumped the qualifying mark (23'10", 7.27m).
Competing in men's high jump, JaTory Reid placed fourth and recorded a 6'7" (2.01m) jump, which matches the ACC Indoor Championships qualifying mark.
Sprints: Cunningham earned a third-place finish in the women's 200m dash with a time of 24.13, faster than the ACC Indoor Championships qualifying time (24.17).
In the men's 200m dash, the Pack recorded third and fourth-place finishes. Quashawn Cunningham outran the ACC Indoor Championships qualifying time (21.64), posting a 21.33, and J Johnson Jr. ran a 22.53.
Distance: Timara Chapman, Mikieja Covington, Emma Ferguson, and Janay Hall made their 800m indoor track and field debuts on Saturday. Ferguson (2:14.92) and Chapman (2:20.89) finished in the top-15 in the event.
Relays: The women's 4x400m relay set a new school record in its second-place finish with a 3:45.57 mark. The record was previously held by Cunningham, Griffin, Pate, and Postell (3:46.64).
