No. 6 #Pack9 Walks Off, 3-2 Over Duke

NC State baseball won in walk-off fashion Friday night before a sellout crowd at Doak Field at Dail Park
RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 6 NC State baseball rallied to walk-off 3-2 against Duke on Friday night at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Wolfpack (30-11, 11-6 ACC) fell behind 2-0 in the top first with Duke (24-19, 9-13) scoring on a passed ball and a wild pitch. NC State trimmed the deficit in half during the bottom first when Josh McLain scored on Joe Dunand's RBI single. In the eighth, Brock Deatherage sent an RBI triple into the left field corner to tie the game. Evan Mendoza's walk-off single in the ninth set the final 3-2.
Mendoza extended his team-leading hit streak to 15 games, finishing 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Preston Palmeiro scored the winning run after a leadoff double to start the ninth, his 17th of the year.
Chance Shepard singled to move Palmeiro to third before Mendoza's RBI. Dunand contributed a pair of hits in addition to his RBI. Stephen Pitarra reached base as the game's leadoff for the fifth time in the last six.
Wolfpack starter Cory Wilder settled in after a bumpy first inning for a season-long 6 1/3 innings of work, allowing two runs, one earned, on six hits and a walk, with five punchouts. Austin Staley relieved him and navigated the next 1 1/3 perfectly with one strikeout. Sean Adler retired the next two batters. Tommy DeJuneas (2-0) scored the win, retiring both batters faced.
