Women’s Soccer Trips to High Point Thursday

RALEIGH, N.C. - NC State returns to the road for an in-state matchup at High Point on Thursday, Aug. 27, at Vert Stadium. First touch is set for 7 p.m., with the match streaming live on ESPN+.
The Wolfpack enters Thursday's match 4-0 and is looking to start a season 5-0 for the first time since 2008 with a win over the Panthers.
A Win Would …
NC State women's soccer defeated Elon, 2-1, on Sunday, Aug. 23, at Dail Soccer Stadium to move to 4-0 to start the season for the first time since 2013. Jade Bordeleau and Erica Roberts scored for the Wolfpack in the victory, which also gave NC State its first two-match home winning streak to open a season since 2022 after the Pack defeated Charlotte in its home opener.
Bordeleau gave NC State an early lead just three minutes, 30 seconds into the match, winning a deflection in the attacking third after freshman goalkeeper Riley Pickels sent the ball downfield before finding the back of the net for her 20th career goal. Roberts doubled the Wolfpack's advantage in the 66th minute, following up on a shot that was initially saved before receiving a ball from Mary Frances Symmes and finishing into the bottom-left corner. Elon cut into the lead in the 77th minute on a free kick from Jessica Hill, but the Wolfpack held on for the 2-1 victory.
Deepened Attack on Display
The increased depth in NC State's attack has been on full display through the first four matches of the season, with the Wolfpack's 11 goals coming from nine different players: Jade Bordeleau (4), Erica Roberts (2), Alex Mohr (1), Antonella Mazziotto (1), Daisy Duda (1), Madison Casteen (1), Katie Richter (1), Fien Leijdekker (1) and Yuna Aoki (1).
The balanced scoring attack reflects the depth NC State has added under head coach Gary Higgins. While Bordeleau remains a key piece of the Wolfpack's attack, NC State has shown it can get production from throughout its lineup, giving the team multiple scoring threats and making the attack more difficult to defend.
Scouting the Panthers
High Point enters Thursday's contest at 1-2-1, with its lone win coming against Marshall on Aug. 20. The Panthers are coming off a 5-10-5 season in 2025 that saw them claim the Big South Championship as the No. 4 seed and earn the program's eighth conference title and an NCAA Tournament berth.
Head coach Aaron McGuiness is in his fifth season at High Point and has led the Panthers to 26 wins. Last season, McGuiness guided HPU through the Big South Tournament with wins over Gardner-Webb and Radford before the Panthers defeated USC Upstate on penalty kicks in the championship match to claim their first conference title under McGuiness.

Thursday's match marks the 14th all-time meeting between NC State and High Point, with the Wolfpack holding an 11-0-2 advantage. The teams played to a 2-2 draw in their most recent meeting in 2023.
