HIGH POINT, N.C. - NC State women's soccer shut out High Point, 3-0, on Thursday night at Vert Stadium to move to 5-0 for the first time since 2008, marking the program's best start to a season in 18 years. Jade Bordeleau, Erica Roberts and Carly Montgomery scored in the win, while Riley Pickels recorded the first clean sheet by an NC State freshman since 2021.
Bordeleau opened the scoring in the 26th minute, converting NC State's first penalty kick goal of the season after Katie Richter was fouled in the box. The score marked her team-leading fifth goal of the year and the 21st of her career.
Roberts doubled NC State's lead in the 38th minute with a goal from well outside the box for her second score in as many games. The senior created her own shot on the play, sending a strike into the top-left corner of the goal.
NC State took an 8-2 advantage in shots into halftime, forcing four High Point saves in the opening 45 minutes.
The Wolfpack added six more shots in the second half and finished the night with a 14-6 advantage. Montgomery added the third and final goal in the 82nd minute, heading home a pass from Mana Nakata during a set piece.
Pickels finished the night with a pair of saves for her first career clean sheet. In her second collegiate start, she became the first Wolfpack freshman to record a shutout since Maria Echezarreta in 2021.
With the win, NC State is now 5-0 to start the season, marking the team's best start since 2008 and tying its win total from all of last season in head coach Gary Higgins' second year in Raleigh.
