STANFORD, Calif. - NC State women's soccer dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 13 Stanford on Thursday night at Laird Q. Cagan Stadium. Mana Nakata recorded the lone goal for the Wolfpack, but the Cardinal offense proved too much as the home side claimed the three points in ACC play.
Neither team found the back of the net for much of the first half until Eleanor Klinger broke the deadlock with 33 seconds remaining before halftime. Amor Leigh Martin Esteban recorded four saves in the opening half, keeping Stanford off the board for the majority of the frame. The Wolfpack also put two shots on goal, with Emily Wong and Nakata each recording an attempt.
Stanford extended its lead in the 52nd minute on a goal by Lily Freer, but Nakata responded for the Wolfpack in the 67th minute to put NC State on the board. Kennedy Eva-Buckner recorded her first collegiate point with an assist on the goal.
The Cardinal quickly answered, with Charlotte Kohler finding the net in the 69th minute to restore Stanford's two-goal advantage. Klinger added her second goal of the night in the final 10 minutes as Stanford secured the 4-1 victory.
Of Note
NC State will close its regular season on Sunday, Nov. 1, with a match at Cal at 4 p.m. ET on ACCNX.
