Virginia Tech Shuts Out NC State

BLACKSBURG, Va. – NC State managed just three hits in the series opener against Virginia Tech as the Wolfpack fell to the Hokies 4-0 Friday night.
The Wolfpack's (26-15, 9-10) three hits came from just two hitters. Rett Johnson had two singles, and Sherman Johnson had an infield hit. Rett Johnson has now hit safely in 15 straight games and is hitting .436 on the year, continuing to rank among the highest batting averages in the country.
NC State was 0-4 with runners in scoring position. Virginia Tech starter Brett Renfrow (3-4) matched his career high, going eight innings, striking out nine with just one walk.
It was the fourth time this season the Pack has been shut out.
Heath Andrews (3-3) started for the Wolfpack and went five innings, allowing four runs on seven hits with three walks and six strikeouts

Sam Harris came on in the sixth inning with two men on and nobody out. The freshman retired all nine batters he faced, adding three strikeouts to his final line.
All four Hokies' runs came with two outs, and Virginia Tech led 4-0 after five following a triple in the second, a home run in the third, and finally a single in the fifth.
Game two between NC State and Virginia Tech will now be played at 12 p.m. on Saturday, April 24th. The game time has moved up due to anticipated inclement weather in Blacksburg.
