RALEIGH, N.C. – The final three games of a seven-game road trip will take the Wolfpack to Blacksburg, Virginia, for a three-game series beginning Friday, April 24th, at 6 p.m., when NC State takes on Virginia Tech.
At 9-9 in ACC play, NC State is eighth in the conference standings, with the Hokies right behind in 10th. The Wolfpack will look to improve its road record, which is 4-7 overall and 2-7 against ACC opponents.
Last season, the two teams met in Raleigh, where the Wolfpack took the series. NC State is 7-3 in the last 10 matchups and holds a 34-11 series record since 1993.
In the Wolfpack's inaugural baseball season in 1940, the Hokies beat the Wolfpack 20-17. Overall, NC State holds a 52-25 record in the all-time series.
Head coach Elliott Avent is three wins away from reaching 1,100 wins at NC State. He would become the only active head coach to reach that mark at a single school and the 12th Division I coach to do so.
NC State will look to build on its Sunday 6-5 win at Wake Forest, as the Pack played in its first extra-innings game of the season and saw freshman Rett Johnson go 5-for-5. Johnson, who now has a .431 average, leads the conference and is fourth in the nation. He is one of two freshmen in the nation among the top 10 hitters.
If the season ended today, Johnson would have the highest single-season batting average in program history.
Johnson comes into the weekend on a 14-game hitting streak and, following his five-hit day, which was the first for a Wolfpack player this season, leads the team, along with Chris McHugh, with 17 games with multiple hits.
McHugh leads the Wolfpack with 40 runs batted in. He has 12 games this season with multiple RBIs. He is one of four Wolfpack players to have a five-RBI game this season.
With 84 stolen bases this season, the Wolfpack have the most stolen bases in a season since 2013, when they set the program record with 110 swiped bags. Trea Turner led that team with 30, which is the second most for a single season in program history.
Ty Head has 24 this season to pace the Pack and has moved into eighth place, passing Tom Sergio for most in a single season. Head also leads the Wolfpack with 38 walks, which is third in the ACC and 23rd in the nation. This is coming off a 48-walk season in his freshman year in 2025, which ranked sixth most in a single season.
Despite losing Jacob Dudan to a season-ending injury and Ryan Marohn, who is week-to-week, both of whom were among the conference leaders in strikeouts and innings pitched, the Wolfpack pitching staff leads the conference in hits allowed per nine innings and is 16th in the nation (7.60).
Averaging 11 strikeouts per nine innings, the Wolfpack are third in the ACC and 11th in the country. Despite Dudan not pitching since April 4th and Marohn missing last weekend against Wake Forest, both rank in the top 10 of the conference, each with 62 punchouts on the season.
