Records Fall as Wolfpack Roll Tar Heels in Road Dual

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. - The Wolfpack continued a decade-long tradition on Friday afternoon, returning to Raleigh with yet another rivalry victory after defeating North Carolina for the 11th consecutive time on the women's side (204-94)Â and the 12th straight time on the men's side (179-108).
Friday's meet marked both the first and final away dual meet of the Wolfpack's 2025–26 regular-season schedule.Â
The evening opened in dominant fashion, as both Wolfpack 200 medley relay teams captured first-place finishes. The men's relay, composed of Quintin McCarty, Arsen Kozhakhmetov, Aiden Hayes, and Drew Salls, set a new Koury Natatorium pool record with a time of 1:23.71.
Freshman Max Carlsen made an immediate impact, breaking the school record and setting a new Koury Natatorium pool record in the 1000 freestyle. His time of 8:42.38 also stands as the fastest mark in the ACC this season.
On the women's side, seniors Katherine Helms and Emma Hastings delivered a 1-2 finish in the 1000 freestyle, both earning spots in the program's all-time top-10 list. Helms moved into fifth place with a time of 9:41.55, while Hastings claimed the eighth spot after clocking 9:42.42.
Freshman Lily King also had a standout performance, earning a place in the Wolfpack top-10 with a time of 1:44.91 in the 200 freestyle, ranking seventh all-time in the event.
Seniors Cassie Moses and Quintin McCarty continued the record-setting trend on enemy territory. McCarty posted a pool-record time of 19.02 in the 50 freestyle, while Moses shattered the Koury Natatorium pool record in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.07.
Overall, the Wolfpack recorded back-to-back finishes in 11 of the 14 events, including the 200 medley relay, 1000 freestyle, 200 freestyle, 100 backstroke, 50 freestyle, 100 freestyle, 200 backstroke, 100 butterfly, 200 IM, and the 400 freestyle relay.
The night concluded with a pair of pool records in the 400 freestyle relay. The women's squad of Erika Pelaez, Cassie Moses, Lily King, and Olivia Nel touched the wall in 3:11.21, while the men's team, Jerry Fox, Kaii Winkler, Quintin McCarty, and Hudson Williams, closed out the meet with a time of 2:46.82, marking the Wolfpack's third relay pool record of the evening.
Looking Ahead: The Wolfpack return to Raleigh next week to host the Virginia Cavaliers in a two-day meet running Friday, Jan. 23 through Saturday, Jan. 24 at the Casey Aquatic Center.
