ACC Record Falls as Carlsen Shines in Home Dual

RALEIGH, N.C. - The No. 6/7 NC State Wolfpack swim and dive team hosted the Virginia Cavaliers in a home dual meet Friday afternoon at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center. The Wolfpack men remained undefeated in dual meet action this season, defeating the Cavaliers 172.5-89.5. The NC State women battled closely but fell 181-113, suffering their first loss of the season.

Freshman Max Carlsen continued his record-breaking start to the season, topping his own school record set just last week against North Carolina and rewriting the ACC record in the 1000 freestyle with a time of 8:41.12. Carlsen wasn't finished there, as he made his presence known again in the 500 freestyle, setting his first pool record at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center with a time of 4:11.89. The swim now ranks as the third-fastest 500 freestyle in program history.

On the women's side, senior Emma Hastings turned in the best 1000 freestyle performance of her career, clocking a 9:35.32 to move into third on the program's all-time list.

Freshman Anton Kochu also etched his name into the record books, recording the 10th-fastest 200 butterfly time in NC State history with a swim of 1:43.96.

The men's 400 freestyle relay, featuring Jerry Fox, Kaii Winkler, Quintin McCarty, and Hudson Williams, closed out the evening in dominant fashion, capturing first place with a time of 2:46.90. The quartet finished seven seconds ahead of Virginia's second-place relay and narrowly missed the pool record.

Diving Highlights
Junior Gracie Hurley delivered a standout performance on the boards, earning back-to-back first-place finishes. Hurley scored a 287.40 on the 1-meter and followed it up with a 309.23 on the 3-meter.

Looking Ahead
The Wolfpack return to Raleigh next Friday, Jan. 30, to honor their seniors in a dual meet against UNCW at the Willis R. Casey Aquatic Center.
