RALEIGH, N.C. – Freshman Rebecca Ring and Sa'Mya Dorsey combined for 25 of the Pack's 49 kills in the 3-1 win over Wake Forest Saturday afternoon in Reynolds Coliseum.
The Pack came out of the gates hot and jumped out to an early lead in set one that the Demon Deacons struggled to overcome. A service error by Patrycja Lagida gave NC State its 15th point and gave the Pack a 15-10 lead headed into the media timeout.
Wake Forest would go on to tie the frame 20-all and begin a back-and-forth battle that eventually ended with NC State on top, 26-24. Dorsey led the Pack with five kills in the set.
The Demon Deacons jumped out to a 5-0 lead to begin the second set, forcing head coach Megan Wargo-Kearney to use an early timeout in hopes of regrouping the Wolfpack. NC State scored the first three points out of the timeout to minimize the deficit to two (5-3).
The two teams continued to battle but the Demon Deacons dominated to take the second set, 25-21.
NC State wasn't backing down and jumped out to a 7-3 lead in set three to force an early Wake Forest timeout. The two teams struggled to record a kill off the opponent's block, but the Pack continued to lead and took the set, 25-19.
Ring and senior middle blocker Lily Cropper each tallied three kills for the Wolfpack, while senior Courtney Bryant led the defensive efforts with two solo blocks.
The Wolfpack continued to lead in set four until the Demon Deacons tied the frame 14-all. Despite Wake Forest not taking over the lead, the Wolfpack was unable to lead by more than two until an attack error by Saide Poeck allowed NC State to gain a three-point lead, 24-21. The Wolfpack would take the fourth set, 25-22, after a service error by the Deacons.
Dorsey finished with 12 kills to mark a new career high. Redshirt-junior Elaisa Villar posted 39 assists in the win to mark a career high, in addition to 10 digs, one kill, and a service ace.
Senior defensive specialist/libero Sydney Daniels tallied a season high three aces in the win.
The 3-1 win marks the second in conference play for NC State this season and ninth overall. It was also the 826th win in program history and the 216th conference win.
