ORLANDO, Fla. – After a long and intense battle, the NC State volleyball team fell to UCF in straight sets in the final match of the Black & Gold Classic hosted by the Knights.

The Pack falls to 2-1 on the season.

Set-By-Set Summary
One: The opening frame was a back-and-forth affair early, featuring six ties as both teams traded points. The Wolfpack got key offensive production from Britni Silver, but UCF's red-hot offense hit .586 as a team in the set to build a late cushion. NC State mounted a late push to cut into the lead, but the Knights held on to take the opening set, 25-21.
Two: NC State grabbed the momentum early in the second frame, using service aces from Eva Long and Talia Francom to build a 16-13 advantage. However, a 3-0 service run by UCF leveled the score at 16-16. The Knights finished the set on a 9-3 surge to take a 2-0 match lead, despite the Pack recording four total team blocks in the set. UCF took the set, 25-20.
Three: The most competitive frame of the afternoon saw 11 ties and 3 lead changes. Kills from Silver and Norah Busch helped NC State push ahead 18-14 mid-set. UCF rallied back to force extra points, but the Wolfpack erased a match point at 24-23 to keep their chances alive. Knotted at 26-26, UCF executed consecutive points to pull away with the 28-26 third-set win and secure the match.

Match Notes

NC State had more success from the service line, as it out-aced the Knights 6-4. UCF tallied 12 service errors at the conclusion of the match.
Silver picked up her second double-double of the weekend after finishing with 10 kills and 11 digs.
The Pack began the match running a 5-1 offense but switched to a 6-2 toward the end of set two.
Sophie Groom finished the outing hitting .455 with six kills and two blocks.
Eva Long earned an All-Tournament team nod after finishing the weekend with 95 assists, 21 digs, nine kills and six blocks.
