RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State women's soccer closes out its opening weekend against East Carolina on Sunday night. Sunday's match at Dail Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m.
The Wolfpack will honor its four seniors prior to Sunday's in-state matchup against the Pirates. Senior Night ceremonies will begin at 6:30 p.m. The match will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
SERIES HISTORY
NC State and East Carolina will face off for the 10th time on Sunday night. A few notes tracking the Pack's matchup against the Pirates are listed below:
• NC State holds a 4-3-2 record against ECU in the all-time series. The Wolfpack is 3-1-1 in the past five meetings dating back to 2010.
• Head coach Tim Santoro is 3-0-1 against East Carolina in four matchups as the Wolfpack's head coach. NC State scored multiple goals in all three of those wins during his tenure.
• In the most recent meeting on Sept. 18, 2019, NC State scored three goals in the opening 16 minutes as the Pack thrashed ECU 5-2 in Greenville. Tziarra King netted a brace as NC State built a 5-1 lead just 56 minutes into the match.
• NC State shut out East Carolina 3-0 in the first matchup of the series on Sept. 27, 1997.
• ECU's last win in the series was a 1-0 win on Sept. 10, 2010, in Greenville.
SCOUTING THE PIRATES
East Carolina will open its 2024 season Sunday in Raleigh after finishing its 2023 campaign with a 9-5-5 (4-2-3) record. The Pirates finished second in the American Athletic Conference's East Division a season ago with 15 league points. Eight of ECU's nine wins this past season came in shutout fashion, including all four of its victories in conference play. Three ECU players – defender/forward Annabelle goalkeeper Abbott, Maeve English and forward Samantha Moxie – were named to the 2024 American Athletic Conference Women's Soccer Watch List. The Pirates earned 73 points to place third in the 2024 American Women's Soccer Preseason Coaches Poll.
SENIOR NIGHT SENDOFF
NC State will honor its four seniors on Sunday night prior to its match against East Carolina. The Wolfpack will recognize Brianna Weber, Annika Wohner, Fernanda Soto and Eliza Rich this weekend.
WELCOME BACK, NO. 12
Jaiden Thomas has been a staple of the NC State women's soccer program since 2019 when she made 22 appearances and eight starts as a true freshman. Thomas, who was supposed to conclude her Wolfpack career in 2023, suffered a preseason injury this past season that kept her out for the entire 2023 campaign. The graduate midfielder returned for NC State in Thursday's season opener against App State, playing 39 minutes as a substitute.
THE STATE OF...NORTH CAROLINA ON MY MIND
Four of NC State's first five games on its 2024 schedule come against teams from the state of North Carolina. Despite not having Tobacco Road rivals Duke and North Carolina on its ACC schedule, the Pack will play five matches against in-state teams during the regular season. The Wolfpack will face in-state opponents App State, East Carolina, Campbell, Charlotte and Wake Forest this season. The last time NC State played four nonconference matches against in-state foes came in 2017 when the Pack faced off against Elon, East Carolina, Davidson and Western Carolina.
MORE MEMBERS OF THE PACK TO THE PROS
Former NC State forward and 2023 alumna Leyah Hall-Robinson signed a professional contract with Norwegian club FK Haugesund on Aug. 7. Hall-Robinson played in 86 career games for the Pack and logged eight goals, 10 assists and 26 points across her NC State career. She started all 37 games over her past two seasons in an NC State uniform.
Just over a week later, fellow former Wolfpack forward Alexis Strickland signed a profession contract with Valadares Gaia FC in Portugal. Strickland started in all 36 games during her Wolfpack career, tallying seven goals and an assist.
