Wolfpack Falls 9-3 in Game Two at North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State baseball team fell 9-3 at North Carolina on Friday night at Boshamer Stadium.
North Carolina starting pitcher Max Carlson limited NC State (31-17, 10-15 ACC) to just three hits and two runs in 7.2 innings on the mound. Jacob Cozart slugged a solo home run to center field in the top of the seventh for the Pack's first run of the game, marking his ninth homer of the season.
Eli Serrano III then crushed the Wolfpack's second solo homer of the game with two outs in the eighth inning. Serrano III fouled off five pitches before drilling the ninth pitch of his at-bat over the wall in center field. Payton Green then walked to extend the inning before a wild pitch and an RBI single from Kalae Harrison helped NC State push across its third run of the game.
The Tar Heels got on the board first in the bottom of the third after Casey Cook doubled down the left-field line with two outs. Jackson Van De Brake then drove in Cook on an RBI single to left field.
North Carolina (32-17, 13-11 ACC) stretched its lead to 6-0 with three runs in bottom of the fourth and a run apiece in the fifth and sixth innings. The Tar Heels added their final three runs of the game in the bottom of the seventh inning. Casey Cook led the Tar Heels with three hits, while Johnny Castagnozzi recorded a game-high three RBI.
On the mound, the NC State bullpen pitched five innings of relief work. Rio Britton, Andrew Shaffner, P.J. Labriola and Jacob Halford combined for five strikeouts while allowing just three hits.
Matt Willadsen fell to 5-4 on the season after pitching four innings, allowing four runs with four strikeouts.
