Wolfpack Drops Series Finale at North Carolina

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State baseball team dropped Saturday's series finale at North Carolina 12-2 at Boshamer Stadium.
The Tar Heels (33-17, 14-11 ACC) scored three in the first and never trailed in the series finale. North Carolina scored three in the first, third, and fourth innings and tallied single runs in the second, fifth and seventh in the win.
NC State (31-18, 10-16 ACC) suffered just its second series sweep of the season in Saturday's loss.
Noah Soles got the Wolfpack on the board in the sixth inning with a leadoff solo homer to right field. Soles' solo shot on a 1-0 pitch marked his third home run of the season. Eli Serrano III then launched a solo home run in the top of the seventh for his second homer in as many games.
On the mound, Justin Lawson tossed 2.1 innings out of the bullpen, allowing just one run with three strikeouts and no walks. Baker Nelson entered the game in the bottom of the seventh for his 24th appearance of the season and 79th of his career. Nelson moved into a tie for eighth place in program history with his 79th career pitching appearance. John Miralia tossed a three-up, three-down inning with a pair of strikeouts in a scoreless eighth frame.
North Carolina starting pitcher Jake Knapp pitched six innings, allowing just two runs and five hits to earn the win. At the plate, Casey Cook and Jackson Van De Brake led UNC with three hits apiece.
Soles paced the Wolfpack with a 2-for-4 day at the plate with a home run, RBI and a single. Cannon Peebles tallied a double for his 19th extra-base hit of the season.

The Pack takes on Pittsburgh to close out its 2023 regular season schedule at The Doak. NC State opens its series against the Panthers on Thursday night at 6 p.m. All three games in the series will be broadcasted live on ACC Network Extra.
