RALEIGH – The NC State softball team dropped game four of the Wolfpack Classic to James Madison, 5-1, Saturday evening at Dail Stadium.
The Dukes opened the game with a two run homer to left field. The Pack ended JMU's attempt to increase the lead by grabbing an out on the next batter.
As the first batter to the plate in the bottom of the third, Hannah Goodwin drilled the first pitch thrown her way over the right field wall to get the Pack on the board. The leadoff homer is the first for her in a Wolfpack jersey.
Junior Kaylee Lambrecht was walked by Dukes' pitcher Rebecca Muh and she later stole second. Freshman Amanda Hasler took her shot in the batter's box and recorded an infield single, allowing Lambrecht to advance to third. The Wolfpack's chance to take the lead was cut short after JMU got three straight outs. NC State finished the inning with two hits, one run, and one left on base.
JMU added two more runs in the top of the fourth after Bella Henzler singled down the left line, allowing two to advance home.
Despite recording five hits on the evening, the Pack was unable to find a weak spot in the Dukes offense. Madison Inscoe pitched her fourth complete game, the only Pack pitcher to do so this season.
Next Up
The Pack will host the Dukes for the Wolfpack Classic finale. Play will begin at 1pm at Dail Stadium and the meeting will be broadcast on ACCNX.
