RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State women's soccer posted its second straight home ACC victory with a 2-0 win over Syracuse on Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
Hannah Jibril scored her first-career goal to give NC State an early 1-0 lead. Jibril chased a through ball from Jameese Joseph into the Syracuse penalty box before drawing a foul from Kylen Grant. Jibril blasted the ensuing penalty shot into the right side of the goal for the opening strike in the 15th minute.
Joseph almost doubled the Pack's lead in the 21st minute when Orange goalkeeper Shea Vanderbosch saved Joseph's right-footed strike with her feet. Ten minutes later, Annika Wohner collected a long pass from Emika Kawagishi, cut inside from the left side and unleashed a right-footed strike toward Vanderbosch's goal, forcing a diving save from the Syracuse keeper.
In the second half, Taylor Chism fired a header off a Kawagishi corner kick in the 67th minute, forcing a save from Vanderbosch. NC State continued to apply pressure before a late breakaway helped seal the 2-0 victory.
Joseph spun around a defender near midfield and raced toward the 18-yard box, picking out Wohner for the goal in the 88th minute. Wohner's first effort was blocked before she placed her rebound effort past Vanderbosch for her fourth goal of the season.
NC State goalkeeper Olivia Pratapas logged her second straight shutout and the third of her Wolfpack career. Pratapas made five saves to preserve the Pack's 2-0 victory.
NC State extended its unbeaten streak against the Orange to six straight matches. The Wolfpack has won five of those six meetings and has outscored Syracuse 18-6 during that time.
Wohner led NC State with three shot attempts, while Leyah Hall-Robinson, Alexis Strickland and Jibril each recorded two attempts apiece.
