
Wolfpack Travels to Miami for Saturday Night ACC Matchup

RALEIGH, N.C. – NC State women's soccer travels to Miami on Saturday for an ACC road match against the Hurricanes. Saturday's match is set for 6 p.m. and will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State recorded its first ACC victory of the season Sunday in a 2-1 win over Virginia at Dail Soccer Stadium. The Wolfpack rushed out to a 2-0 lead within the first 12 minutes behind goals from forwards Jameese Joseph and Annika Wohner. Joseph recorded her third goal of the season on a combination play down the left flank with Fernanda Soto, giving the Pack a 1-0 advantage in the sixth minute. Just over six minutes later, Rosalie Olou played a short, progressive pass to Hannah Jibril before Jibril crossed in a ball to Wohner in the box. Wohner finished with her right foot to double NC State's lead to 2-0 in the 12th minute. Virginia trimmed its deficit to 2-1 in the 64th minute, but the Wolfpack held on to earn its first win over Virginia since 2009.
SERIES HISTORY
NC State and Miami will face off for the 15th time on Saturday night. A few notes tracking the Pack's ACC contest in Coral Gables are listed below:
• NC State and Miami will play each other in consecutive seasons for the first time since the two teams played each other every season from 2004-15.
• In the most recent matchup on Oct. 15, NC State and Miami played one of the wildest games of the each team's respective seasons in a 3-3 draw at Dail Soccer Stadium. Miami rushed out to a 3-0 lead in the first 20 minutes before Lulu Guttenberger quickly netted a brace with goals in the 24th and 25th minutes. With the score trimmed to 3-2, Jameese Joseph tied it at 3-3 with her seventh goal of the season in the 49th minute. Despite outshooting Miami 13-3 in the second half, NC State could not find the winner in a chaotic 3-3 draw.
• In 2018, NC State shut out Miami in a 1-0 victory in Raleigh. The Wolfpack dropped its most recent game in Coral Gables 3-2 on Oct. 11, 2015.
• Miami leads the all-time series 7-4-3.
STREAK SNAPPED AGAINST THE 'HOOS
NC State not only logged its first ACC win of the season on Sunday, but it also snapped a 12-game winless streak against Virginia behind its 2-1 victory. Before Sunday, NC State's most recent victory over Virginia was also a 2-1 win at Dail Soccer Stadium on Sept. 24, 2009. The win also marked head coach Tim Santoro's first victory over Virginia during his tenure at NC State.
SCOUTING THE HURRICANES
Miami has faced a challenging stretch over its current three-game losing streak, falling to ACC standings' leaders Florida State, Notre Dame and North Carolina over the past two weeks. The Hurricanes won two of their first three ACC matchups, notching a 2-1 victory over Syracuse before earning a 1-0 shutout win over Louisville. Miami was predicted 13th in the 2023 Preseason ACC Coaches Poll after a 5-8-3 (2-7-1 ACC) mark in 2022. Caroline Hood leads the Canes with two goals this season, while Emma Tucker paces the team with three assists.
GAINING EXPERIENCE
NC State has had five true freshmen make appearances for the Wolfpack this season -- Jade Bordeleau, Mackenzie Smith, Rosalie Olou, Hannah Jibril and Mary Frances Symmes. This freshman quintet has combined to log a total of 2,732 minutes, 57 appearances, 22 starts, two goals and five assists for the Wolfpack this season. In total, true freshmen have accounted for over 19% of NC State's total minutes played during the 2023 season.

NC State's sustained success has garnered national attention as the Wolfpack ranked No. 15 in SoccerWire's 2023 list of Top 50 Current NCAA Women's Soccer Programs. The rankings were based on a combination of final United Soccer Coaches Polls and Rating Percentage Index (RPI) from each season, with bonuses awarded for NCAA Tournament qualification and College Cup victories.

Following Sunday's win over Virginia, Joseph now ranks first in shots (231), tied for second in career goals (24) and tied for sixth in career points (58). Saturday's match at Miami will mark her 85th career game in an NC State uniform.
