RALEIGH – The No. 20 NC State women's soccer team closed out nonconference play with a 3-1 victory over High Point Thursday night at Dail Soccer Stadium.
NC State (5-1-3) honored its five seniors – Eden Millan, Leyah Hall-Robinson, Jaiden Thomas, Jameese Joseph and Alexis Strickland – for Senior Night prior to the Wolfpack's commanding 3-1 win. The Pack scored twice in the opening 30 minutes to build a 2-0 lead at the half, finishing the match with a two-goal victory behind Joseph's second-half strike in the 52nd minute.
The Pack fired 25 shots on the night, outshooting High Point (1-6-2) 25-8 and 10-3 in shots on target.
Freshman Brooklyn Holt notched her first-career goal to give NC State a 1-0 lead in the 12th minute, finishing off a pass from Joseph on a breakaway opportunity. Goalkeeper Maria Echezarreta then made a key save within two minutes of NC State's opening goal, denying High Point's Skyler Prillaman from close range in the 14th minute.
The Pack increased its offensive pressure following Echezarreta's stop, doubling its lead when Brianna Weber tallied her first goal of the season. Weber fired a right-footed shot off a pass from Holt at the top of the box, sliding it past the goalkeeper into the bottom-left corner.
Joseph then extended the Wolfpack's lead to 3-0 in the 52nd minute, recording her team-high fourth goal of the season off a double assist from Annika Wohner and Fernanda Soto. Soto played the ball into Wohner at the top of the box who turned and weighted a pass to Joseph who beat the goalkeeper for the third goal.
High Point got on the board in the 57th minute via an own goal. The Panthers trimmed NC State's lead to 3-1 when a ball whipped in off a corner hit a Wolfpack defender and deflected into the net.
Nineteen members of the Pack made an appearance in Thursday's win. Joseph paced the Wolfpack with nine shots, four shots on goal and tied with Holt with three points on the night.
Echezarreta just missed out on her third straight clean sheet, making three saves.
