RALEIGH – The No. 20 NC State women's soccer team (5-1-3) opens Atlantic Coast Conference play Sunday night when Wake Forest makes the trip to Raleigh. Sunday night's match is set for 7 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium.
NC State's match against the Demon Deacons will be broadcasted live on ACC Network. Live stats will also be available via StatBroadcast.
LAST TIME OUT
NC State honored its five seniors — Eden Millan, Leyah Hall-Robinson, Jaiden Thomas, Jameese Joseph and Alexis Strickland — both before and during the Pack's 3-1 victory over High Point on Thursday night. The Wolfpack opened its four-game home stand with its fifth win of the season, closing out nonconference play with a 4-1-1 record at home. Brooklyn Holt scored the opener for her first-career goal, while Brianna Weber doubled the Pack's lead on her first goal of the season. Jameese Joseph extended NC State's lead to 3-0 early in the second half with her team-high fourth goal of the season. NC State fired 25 shots on the night, outshooting High Point 25-8 and 10-3 in shots on goal.
SERIES HISTORY
Sunday's meeting between the Wolfpack and Demon Deacons will mark the 29th matchup between the two programs. Wake Forest holds a 19-7-2 advantage in the series, winning three of the past five matchups. NC State's most recent win in the series came at home on Sept. 25, 2016, in a 2-1 victory.
SCOUTING THE DEMON DEACONS
Wake Forest (6-0-2) finished nonconference play undefeated, shutting out seven of its eight opponents this season. Excluding a 7-0 win over High Point on Sept. 1, the Demon Deacons have scored just three goals over their past six games, logging a pair of 1-0 wins and a 0-0 draw in their past three matches. Starting goalkeeper Kaitlyn Parks has allowed just one goal in over 673 minutes played this season, tallying seven total shutouts. Offensively, Olivia Stowell and Alex Wood pace the Deacons with three goals apiece.
SETTING THE TABLE
Since taking over the program after the 2012 season, head coach Tim Santoro has logged five or more regular-season nonconference wins six times in nine fall seasons. NC State's 3-1 win over High Point helped the 2022 team join squads from 2013, 2016, 2017, 2018 and 2019 to accomplish the feat.
PACK AGAIN RANKS INSIDE TOPDRAWERSOCCER TOP 25
For the fifth straight week, TopDrawerSoccer ranked NC State (No. 20) in its latest Top 25. The Wolfpack joins six other ACC schools in the top 25 – Virginia (No. 2), North Carolina (No. 3), Duke (No. 5), Florida State (No. 7), Notre Dame (No. 8) and Clemson (No. 19).
OH CAPTAIN, MY CAPTAIN
Captain Lulu Guttenberger has been anchoring the NC State backline for years, starting all 84 games throughout her Wolfpack career. Guttenberger needs to make just nine more starts to set a new NC State record for career starts in an NC State uniform. She also needs to make just 10 more appearances to set the NC State record for career appearances.
UP NEXT
NC State will continue its four-game home stand Thursday against Virginia Tech. Thursday's kickoff at Dail Soccer Stadium is set for 7 p.m. and will stream live on ACC Network Extra.
