RALEIGH – The NC State women's soccer team tallied a pair of second-half goals to draw No. 11 Georgetown 2-2 at Dail Soccer Stadium on Sunday night.
After Georgetown (1-1-2) took its first lead of the match in the 79th minute on a goal from Natalie Means, the Wolfpack answered the Hoyas' score when graduate defender Jenna Butler finished off a low cross from Jaiden Thomas to tie the game at 2-2 in the 85th minute. Both Thomas and Brianna Weber logged assists after Annika Wohner elevated to win a header, keeping the ball in Georgetown's box.
NC State (3-0-1) finished its opening homestand undefeated, earning victories over Rhode Island, VCU and Campbell before earning a point against the No. 11 Hoyas. NC State outshot Georgetown 8-5 in the final 45 minutes and held a 6-3 advantage in corners in the second half.
After a scoreless first half, senior forward Jameese Joseph buried the Wolfpack's first scoring chance of the second half to make it 1-0 just 31 seconds into the second period. Joseph received a layoff pass from Wohner before striding toward the Georgetown goal, blasting a right-footed effort into the top-left corner.
Georgetown, however, leveled the game at 1-1 less than a minute later when Henley Tippins notched an equalizer. NC State almost regained the lead in the 78th minute Alexis Strickland's shot at the near post went to the right of the Hoyas' goal.
Less than a minute later, Means capitalized on an NC State turnover to make it 2-1. NC State then responded with three corners and three shots before Butler buried her shot from close distance.
Joseph extended her point streak to four straight matches on Sunday, scoring goals in her past three appearances after tallying an assist in the season opener. Thomas has logged an assist in her past three matches.
