
Tuohy Runs Top-10 Collegiate 5000m Time at Virginia Challenge

CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. - The NC State track & field teams charted a multitude of personal bests and top-10 program marks on Friday, competing at the Virginia Challenge.
DISTANCE
Katelyn Tuohy ran a blistering 15:14.61 in the women's 5000m invite to set the eighth-fastest time in collegiate history. The time was good for conference, facility, meet, school and personal records and earned her a first-place finish at the meet. The mark is the fastest in the nation in the 2022 season.
Gionna Quarzo (15:56.55) and Mariah Howlett (16:06.71) laced up for the Pack in the 5000m invite as well, each posting a PR.
Jenna Schulz clocked a personal-best 16:22.82 in the women's 5000m, and Alyssa Hendrix tabbed a PR of 17:31.58.
Two Wolfpack women ran top-10 program times in the women's 1500m invite. Nevada Mareno charted a 4:15.50 that ranks 19th in the country and fourth in program history.
Anna Vess was the other member of the Pack with a top-10 1500m mark as she ran a 4:17.07 that checks into the NC State record book as the seventh-best time in program history.
The men's section of the 1500m invite saw Gavin Gaynor clock a 3:42.11 that was good not only for a PR but also for the third-fastest time in the Wolfpack record book. Ian Shanklin tabbed a personal-best mark in the event as well, running a 3:45.43.
Brett Gardner represented NC State in the men's 3000m steeplechase, clocking a personal-record 8:56.41.
Robinson Snider posted the ninth-fastest time in program history in the men's 5000m invite with a personal-best 13:50.91. Ian Harrison (13:57.55) and Dan McGoey (14:23.86) each tabbed a PR in the event as well.
JUMPS
Three members of the Pack recorded a PR in the men's long jump, led by Cameron Murray's 7.81m (25' 7.5") mark. Murray's jump was a personal best, and the mark checks in as the fifth-best jump in program history and the 19th-farthest leap in the nation.
Von Douglas tabbed a 7.66m (25' 1.75") in the event, tying his personal best, while William Sistruck registered a PR of 7.20m (23' 11.5").
MULTI-EVENTS
Timara Chapman was the first to compete for NC State on Friday, beginning heptathlon action with the 100m hurdles. She ran a personal-best 13.93 in the event that was good for the seventh-best time in program history.
Chapman followed up the 100m hurdles performance a PR in the high jump, leaping 1.67m (5' 5.75").
The third event of the day for the heptathlete was the shot put. Chapman placed third in the event with a mark of 11.25m (36' 11").
Multi-events action concluded for the day with the 200m, and Chapman posted another personal best with her 24.94 in the event.
At the end of the first day of heptathlon competition, Chapman sits in second with 3310 points.
SPRINTS
McKenzie Long ran the second-fastest overall preliminary time in the women's 100m, clocking an 11.54 that checks into the NC State record book as the fourth-fastest in program history.
Long followed up the prelims time with another PR in the final, turning in an 11.49 for third place and the third-fastest program mark.
In the men's section of the 100m, Alexander Lang tabbed a 10.60 personal best in the prelims.
