#Pack9 Earns 8-6 Comeback Win Over No. 12 Georgia Tech

RALEIGH – NC State baseball (13-8, 2-4 ACC) scored seven unanswered runs to earn a comeback win over No. 12 Georgia Tech (16-7, 4-3 ACC) on Friday night in its series opener at Doak Field at Dail Park, 8-6.
This was the Wolfpack's second win over a top 15 opponent this season and it has now won three of its last four games.
Georgia Tech got on the board first with a bases-loaded walk in the second, but Devonte Brown's solo shot to left field, his fifth home run of the season, in the third knotted the score at 1-1.
Tech plated five runs in the fourth on a wild pitch, RBI single and three-run home run to take a 6-1 lead, but the Pack managed to tie it back up in its half of the inning with five runs on four hits and a pair of errors.
J.T. Jarrett started the spark with a leadoff double to left field, and after a passed ball and walk put runners at the corners, back-to-back singles by Payton Green and Brown pulled the Pack within three. Then after LuJames Groover III drew a walk to load the bases, a fielder's choice and error scored two more runs.
Tommy White laced an RBI double off the right center wall to drive in the game-tying run and make it 6-6.
Brown brought the go-ahead run across in the fifth, giving the Pack a 7-6 lead when his double scored Green from first after he reached on an error. Groover's long single in the next at bat scored Brown to add an insurance run.
The Yellow Jackets looked to rally back in the ninth when Andrew Jenkins led off with a single to right center, but a double play started by Josh Hood quickly erased the runner. Down to their last out a three-base error placed Stephen Reid at third, but Chris Villaman froze the final batter to seal the victory and pick up his second save of the season.
Logan Adams (2-0) was stellar in relief, as he tossed three shutout innings and yielded three hits while fanning four batters. Villaman threw the final two innings of the contest and tallied three strikeouts while giving up just one hit. The duo did not allow a walk in five innings of work out of the bullpen.
Brown (3-for-5, 3 RBI) and Groover (3-for-3) led the offense and combined for six of the team's 10 hits. Brown was a triple short of hitting for the cycle while Groover turned in his team-leading 12th multi-hit game.
NC State returns to action Saturday in game two of its series with Georgia Tech. First pitch is set for 7 p.m. at Doak Field at Dail Park, and the contest will be broadcast on the ACC Network with an audio stream on WKNC 88.1 and the Varsity Network App.
