Members of Wolfpack Women's Team Advance to Preliminary Quarterfinals, NCAA Championships

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. - The NC State women's track & field program opened NCAA East Preliminary action on Thursday with Akira Rhodes and Katelyn Tuohy advancing to the quarterfinals of their respective events and Kelsey Chmiel punching her ticket to the NCAA Championships.
SPRINTS
Running events opened with the women's 100m hurdles first round. Rhodes represented the Wolfpack in the event and advanced to Saturday's quarterfinals with a time of 13.13(w). Her mark earned her third place in her heat and tied her for the 17th-fastest time in the event.
DISTANCE
A trio of Wolfpack women competed in the 1500m first round, led by Tuohy's 4:20.55. The freshman placed second in her heat to advance to the quarterfinals Saturday. Her time was the 21st-fastest overall.
Nevada Mareno tabbed eighth place in her heat, running a 4:24.95 for overall 36th place, and Anna Vess rounded out the 1500m crew with a 46th-place finish and a time of 4:36.35.
Chmiel became the first member of the Wolfpack to advance to the 2021 NCAA Championships, placing eighth in the women's 10000m with a time of 33:52.21.
Freshman Gionna Quarzo posted an impressive outing at her first NCAA East Preliminary meet, finishing the women's 10000m in 34:12.38 to take 13th.
