
#Pack9 Powers Past App State, Avent Collects 900th Win At NC State

RALEIGH – NC State baseball (11-11) used a nine-run sixth inning to power past Appalachian State (11-13) on Tuesday night at Doak Field at Dail Park and earn a 13-2 victory.
The result marked head coach Elliott Avent's 900th win at NC State. He is the all-time winningest coach in NC State history.
J.T. Jarrett got things started for the Pack in the first inning when he led off with a double off the left field wall, then after Tyler McDonough's bunt single moved him to third he scored on Luca Tresh's groundout to second.
Devonte Brown added to the Pack's scoring in the second inning with his two-run home run, his third of the season, to center field.
Starting pitcher Chris Villaman (2-2) took a no-hitter into the fifth inning, and yielded a one-out single to Phillip Cross and a triple to Alex Leshock which plated App's first run of the night.
McDonough answered in the bottom half of the inning with a solo shot over the right center wall, giving NC State the 4-1 advantage. It was his fourth long ball of the year.
In the sixth, the Pack offense erupted with nine runs on seven hits to take a commanding 13-1 lead.
The Mountaineers managed to get in one more run before the contest was over when Kendall McGowan's hard-hit ball off of relief pitcher Garrett Payne's leg drove in Bailey Welch in the eighth inning.

OF NOTE
- McDonough extended his reached base streak to 39 games, which dates back to the 2020 season. It is the longest streak currently held by an ACC player. He additionally now owns an eight-game hit streak.
- McDonough led the offense with a 3-for-4 performance while Torres and also Mensik turned in multi-hit outings by going 2-for-5 at the plate.
- It was the 17th game this season the Pack has belted at least one home run in a contest.
- Tatum's three walks on the night tied his career best for a single game.
- The team's 13 runs tied for the second-most this season, and it was the 11th time this year it has tallied double-digit hits in a game.
- Four pitchers were used in the contest. Villaman went six complete innings, tallying seven strikeouts while scattering three hits and allowing one earned run to score to pick up his second-straight win on the mound.
- Tuesday marked Payne's collegiate debut on the mound, while Coby Ingle and Logan Bender both hurled a shutout inning apiece.
