RALEIGH – NC State women's soccer battled to its second-straight draw against a ranked opponent on Sunday evening at Dail Soccer Stadium, as it tied with No. 20 Virginia Tech, 1-1.
The contest was called in the first overtime period due to lightning, as the Wolfpack moves to 6-4-4 (1-1-4 ACC) and the Hokies move to 9-3-2 (1-3-2 ACC) on the year.
Maxine Blackwood scored her first goal of the season in the 20th minute from just inside the top of the box off of a pass from Jameese Joseph. Her shot on goal went right over Virginia Tech goalkeeper Mandy McGlynn's outstretched hand on her attempted diving save.
Virginia Tech's Molly Feighan found the equalizer in the 78th minute off of a Nicole Kozlova assist. Feighan's shot from the top of the box was deflected by the Wolfpack's backline, and trickled in towards the far post out of reach for Jessica Berlin.
The match was suspended in the 93rd minute because of lightning in the area, and after a delay and continuous rainfall the contest could not be finished.
NC State will travel to Pittsburgh on Sat., Oct 19, for the first of its last two matches on the road in the regular season. Kickoff is set for 7 p.m. at Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pa.
