PITTSBURGH – NC State women's soccer suffered a 2-1 loss to Pittsburgh on Saturday evening at Ambrose Urbanic Field in Pittsburgh, Pa. All three goals were scored in the first half within a span of 21 minutes.
The Panthers improve to 5-7-3 (2-3-2 ACC), while the Wolfpack moves to 6-5-4 (1-2-4 ACC) on the season.
Celia Lopez's header goal in the 20th minute put the Panthers up early in the contest, as she capitalized on the rebound of a long shot that hit the crossbar.
Nine minutes later, Pitt doubled its lead when Vildan Kardesler scored on a volley at the edge of the box on a deflected direct free kick from midfield.
Leyah Hall-Robinson pulled the Pack within one heading into the locker room when she put away her second career goal in the 41st minute. Her header goal off of a Lulu Guttenberger corner kick cut the team's deficit in half.
The Pack dominated the second half with nine of its 17 shots on goal and four corners, but was unable to find the equalizer in the final 45 minutes. Pittsburgh goalkeeper Amaia Pena tallied a career-high 11 saves in the contest.
NC State returns home for its final week of action in Raleigh during the regular season. The Pack will host Syracuse Thursday at 7 p.m. then Notre Dame Sunday at 1 p.m. at Dail Soccer Stadium, and both matches will be broadcast on the ACC Network Extra.
