RALEIGH – The NC State softball team fell in its rubber match with UNCG on Sunday afternoon at Dail Stadium.

The Wolfpack moves to 23-28 and the Spartans improve to 41-10 on the season.

How It Happened
-The Spartans scored 11 runs in seven hits in the first inning. A hit-by-pitch, single down the left field line and walk started the top of the first. An RBI walk and pair of outfield singles scored the first three runs, and a 2-RBI double to left center and bunt single made it 5-0. The Spartans added two more runs with an RBI 6-4 fielder's choice and single up the middle, and a three-run blast extended their lead to 11.
-A bases-loaded walk in the second inning brought another run across for UNCG.
-In the fourth the Spartans scored 12 runs on seven hits. The Pack issued three bases-loaded walks in the frame and gave up a pair of 2-RBI doubles along with three singles and a wild pitch allowed a run to score.
-In the bottom frame Chandley Garner homered to left field to break the shutout.
-In the fifth Cheyenne Balzer scored Macauley Prickett with a single up the middle after she led off with a single up the middle and advanced to second on a groundout to the pitcher's circle. A groundout to second ended the game and allowed the Spartans take the series with a 24-2 (5) win.

Inside The Box Score
-Starting pitcher Devin Wallace (11-15) took the loss as she gave up the first three runs of the game.
-Balzer doubled to left center in the first inning to give her a team-best nine this season. The team has now hit 53 this year which ranks eighth all-time among the program for most in a single season.
-Garner's homer in the fourth was her 11th of the season and third in two games.

Up Next
NC State will wrap up its season next weekend when it hosts ACC foe No. 8 Florida State in a three-game series. The teams will meet Friday ay 5 p.m., Saturday at 2 p.m. and Sunday at noon at Dail Stadium. All three games will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra and Sunday's game will be the program's Senior Day.
