Softball Drops Series Opener With Florida State

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team dropped its series opener with No. 11/9 Florida State 9-1 (5) on Friday evening at Dail Stadium.
The Seminoles improve to 42-10 (19-3 ACC) and the Wolfpack moves to 23-29 (5-16 ACC) on the season.
How It Happened
-FSU took an early 1-0 lead in the first. After a one-out walk put a runner on, a sacrifice bunt followed by an error allowed her to score.
-The Noles added three more runs in the third. After a leadoff single, a homer to left field brought in the first two runs. A single up the middle kept the inning going, and after a stolen base and groundout to first allowed the runner to threaten a wild pitch drove in the run.
-The Pack cut its deficit to three in the bottom frame. Angie Rizzi led off with an infield single and Haylee Kobziak was walked to put two on. Alyssa Compton's sacrifice bunt moved the runners to second and third, and Cheyenne Balzer's groundout the shortstop allowed Rizzi to score.
-In the fourth a grand slam doubled FSU's score after a leadoff walk and pair of infield singles loaded the bases.
-FSU tacked on another run in the fifth with a solo shot to center field.

-Kama Woodall (9-10) took the loss after throwing a complete effort and giving up eight earned runs on 10 hits. She struck out five in the contest.
-Kobziak and Lily Bishop along with Rizzi each tallied a base hit.

The teams will meet Saturday for game two of the series. First pitch is 2 p.m. at Dail Stadium and the game will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra.
