Softball Closes Out Home Slate This Weekend With Florida State Series

RALEIGH – The NC State softball team will wrap up conference play this weekend when it hosts No. 11/9 Florida State in a three-game series at Dail Stadium. The teams will play at 5 p.m. Friday, 2 p.m. Saturday and 12 p.m. Sunday. All three games will be streamed on the ACC Network Extra and the program's senior class will be honored prior to the start of Sunday's contest.
The Wolfpack enters the weekend with a 23-28 (5-15 ACC) record and the Seminoles are 41-10 (18-3 ACC) this season.
Last Time Out
The Pack hosted UNCG in a non-conference series last weekend and picked up an 8-1 win in the nightcap of Saturday's doubleheader. The Spartans won games one and three though to take the series.
All-Time Series
Friday will mark the 44th time the teams have met as FSU leads the all-time series 32-11. The teams last met in April 2016 in Tallahassee, Fla., and the Pack suffered a series sweep.
Double Trouble
Cheyenne Balzer hit the team's 53rd double of the season on Sunday, which is ninth overall among the program for most in a single season. She currently holds a team-best nine to rank among the top 15 for the individual single-season record.
Going For Two
The Pack has turned 20 double plays this season which ranks fourth in the single-season record book. NC State turned three last week to rank T31st in the NCAA for most in a season.
Home Run Tracker
Freshman Chandley Garner currently leads the team with 11 home runs, which ranks third overall in the ACC. She hit three in the last two games of last weekend's series with UNCG.
Finishing Strong
Senior Alyssa Compton currently holds 210 game appearances, including 206 starts in her career. Both of those numbers currently rank among the top 10 all-time in the career record books.
She's additionally on track to turn in the best season of her career at the plate as she has compiled a .295 batting average with 39 hits and 23 RBI so far.
Scouting Florida State
The Seminoles clinched their sixth-straight ACC regular season championship on Saturday when it defeated Notre Dame 11-2 (6) on the road to take the series 2-1. FSU has won seven of its last nine games, as the Irish avoided the series sweep on Sunday with a 3-1 win.
Sydney Sherrill leads the Seminoles at the plate with a .389 batting average with 61 hits and 36 runs, while Jessie Warren paces the team with 13 homers, 50 RBI and an .803 slugging percentage.
In the circle Kylee Hanson leads the staff with a 24-4 record and 1.00 ERA, while Meghan King is 15-6 this season with a 1.36 average. The two combined own 305 of the team's 349 strikeouts this season.
