Pair of Fourth Quarter TDs Lead Wake Forest Over NC State

Raleigh, N.C. – Wake Forest scored the game's final two touchdowns, including the gamewinner with just 30 seconds remaining, to claim a 27-23 win at Carter-Finley Stadium.

NC State opened the contest with a pair of field goals in the first quarter, 29 and then 23 yards from Christopher Dunn. Wake answered with a 47-yard field goal with 9:46 left in the first half to make the score 6-3.

NC State scored the game's first touchdown on a two-yard Ryan Finley TD run with just under five minutes left, and gave NC State a 13-3 halftime lead.

The teams traded field goals to start the third quarter, first a Wake 34-yard field goal, then Dunn's third of the game from 23 yards out.

The Demon Deacons then got within 16-13 late in the third quarter after a 38-yard TD pass capped a four-play, 83-yard drive.

On the first play of the fourth quarter, WR Emeka Emezie turned a short pass into a 35-yard TD to extend the Pack's lead to 23-13.

Wake once again got to within a score after a 19-yard TD pass cut the Pack's lead to 23-20 with 6:07 left.

After stopping the Pack on fourth down from the Wake 20-yar line, the Demon Deacons got the ball back with 1:39 left. Wake drove 8- yards, capped by a 32-yard TD pass to go up 27-23 with 0:30 left.

NC State got the ball back at its own 10-yard line with 0:21 left, but could only advance the ball to the 49-yard line before a game-ending INT ended it on the hailmary attempt.

The Wolfpack scored the game's first touchdown late in the second quarter, after an 11-play, 75-yard drive that took 5:11. QB Ryan Finley scored from two yards out to give the Pack a 13-3 lead with 4:36 left in the first half. Finley was 4-of-5 on the drive for 30 yards.

On the very first play of the fourth quarter, QB Ryan Finley found WR Emeka Emezie across the middle of the field, and he broke a tackle to take the ball in from 35 yards out for the Pack's second touchdown of the game. The drive went 75 yards in six plays.
