The Wolfpack falls to 34-23 on the year, while the Tar Heels improve to 46-11. Despite the tough start, NC State continued to battle at the plate and Wolfpack pitchers retired 15 consecutive batters to end the game.

NC State will now await the NCAA Baseball Selection Show on Monday at noon on ESPN2 to learn its postseason fate.

Sean Adler was dominant on the mound in relief, as he pitched 3.1 innings and retired all 10 batters he faced. More impressively, he did so on just 34 pitches, 26 of which were strikes and struck out five batters.

In the first inning, NC State committed a pair of costly errors as UNC-Chapel Hill scored eight unearned runs in the frame to lead 10-0 at the end of the inning. The Wolfpack plated a pair of runs in top of the third to get on the board.

Andy Cosgrove doubled to start the inning, as he's now recorded a hit in 11 of his last 12 games and scored on an RBI double to deep center field by Brock Deatherage. A sacrifice fly to left field by Josh McLain plated Deatherage from third base.

After UNC-CH added a pair of runs, McLain launched his fifth homer over the left field wall to start the NC State fifth, a solo shot. Joe Dunand started the eighth with a triple off the wall in right center and scored on Brett Kinneman's sacrifice fly.

All five of NC State's hits in the contest were for extra bases, as McLain homered, Dunand tripled and Cosgrove, Deatherage and Evan Mendoza doubled. Will Wilson walked in the game to extend his reached base safely streak to 12 games.
