Shutout in Season Opener
The 2017 Wolfpack squad accomplished a rare feat in the season opener, as NC State earned a 4-0 shutout win against Hawai'i. It was the first time since 1973 that the Pack has opened the year with a shutout win.
Adler Strong
Senior left-handed pitcher Sean Adler earned the opening day start for NC State and delivered a strong performance to earn his first win as a starting pitcher and third win in a Wolfpack uniform.
Â
The Northridge, Calif., native threw five innings, allowing just four hits (All singles) with a walk and strikeout.
Â
Stellar Debut for Wilson
Will Wilson, a freshman from Kings Mountain, N.C., had a stellar debut for the Pack, as he accounted for all four of NC State's runs on opening day (3 RBI, 1 run scored). He drove in the first run of the season with an RBI double down the left field line in his first collegiate at-bat.
Â
Kinneman Picking Up Where He Left Off
A Freshman All-America Selection in 2016, Brett Kinneman picked up where he left off at the end of last season. He finished opening weekend with a team-best .500 batting average to go along with six hits, including four doubles.
Â
He also hit his first home run of the season in game two of the series with Hawai'I in a very pitcher friendly ballpark. After opening weekend, his four doubles tied for the ACC lead.
Â
DeJuneas' First Start
Junior righty Tommy DeJuneas made his first career start on the mound last Sunday and delivered a strong outing to earn the win on 5.2 innings pitched, allowing just one hit.
Â
Pack Pitching
Wolfpack pitchers allowed just nine hits on opening weekend, tied for the fewest in the ACC. Five different NC State pitchers combined to limit Hawai'i to one hit in the series finale and just four in the opener.
Â
Scouting Austin Peay
The Austin Peay Governors own a 3-1 record heading into the weekend after defeating Southern Illinois in their most recent outing on Wednesday afternoon. Austin Peay earned wins against Youngstown State and Illinois State on opening weekend with a loss to Indiana State to conclude the weekend.
Â
The Govs own a team batting average of .333, highlighted by 13 home runs. They have scored 37 runs in four games, an average of 9.25 runs per game. On the mound, Austin Peay pitchers have compiled a 5.00 ERA with 20 earned runs allowed.
