Henes Enters Record Book with Second-Fastest Indoor 5K in Program History

The Wolfpack sophomore finished with a time of 15:49.29 at the Boston University Season Opener.
BOSTON – Wolfpack sophomore Elly Henes entered her name into the NC State record books Saturday evening at the Boston University Season Opener. Coming off an All-American cross country season, her women's indoor 5K time of 15:49.29 was the second-fastest mark in program history.
Henes placed seventh overall in the event, which featured some of the nation's top talent including 2017 NCAA Cross Country national champion Ednah Kurgat of New Mexico. Henes' time bested her mother, NC State Associate Head Coach and Wolfpack alumna Laurie Henes, for the program's second-fastest indoor 5K time.
Redshirt-senior Erika Kemp currently holds the NC State record with a time of 15:45.46 that she set in 2016.
Redshirt-freshmen Dominique Clairmonte and Beth Taye each made their Wolfpack indoor track debuts alongside Henes. Clairmonte finished 17th in the event with a 16:14.92 performance, which ranks her 10th on the program's all-time top-10 list. Taye clocked in at 16:38.20 in her first race in uniform.
