
Sprinters, Hurdlers Dominate Final Day of Raleigh Relays

RALEIGH, N.C. - The sprinters and and hurdlers from the NC State track and field teams racked up event wins and national marks on the final day of the Raleigh Relays.

Quashawn Cunningham highlighted the meet for the Pack. He ran one of the fastest 100m dash times in school history within the last 10 years, crossing the finish line for the win in 10.38. The Charlotte native also ran a wind-aided 10.34 in the prelims. His mark ranks 10th in the country and fourth in the East region.

Cunningham added another event win in the 200m dash with a time of 20.94. That mark ranks 10th in the nation and fifth in the East region.

Hurdles:
Alexis Perry concluded the meet with another dominating performance in the 100m hurdles. Perry crossed the finish line in 13.23, ahead of the second-place performer by .32 seconds. The win clinched the undefeated hurdles performance for Perry. The mark was just short from her season-best 13.18 that she ran in yesterday's prelims.

In the men's 400m hurdles, Erin Jenkins finished sixth overall with a time of 53.03. He posted a 1.56 second improvement from the first meet of the season. The mark is also a PR and qualifies him for the ACC Championships. The mark is currently ranked 13th in East region.

Sprints:
Paisley Simmons opened the sprints for the Pack with a big win over Olympian and American 400m record holder Francena McCorory in the 100m dash finals. Simmons and McCorory went neck-and-neck the whole race, but it was Simmons who edged the professional at the finish line.

Simmons' mark of 11.50 from prelims is ranked 12th in the nation.

She concluded her meet with a fourth-place finish in the 200m. Her time of 24.00 is good for an ACC qualifying mark.

In Cunningham's 100m dash, the Charlotte, N.C., native went head-to-head with Sprint Capitol's TJ Graham and senior Jonathan Addison. Cunningham had the edge throughout the race and won by .05 of a second.

In his 200m dash, the sophomore pulled away from the group in the turn and thundered down the straightaway to beat the runner up by .33 of a second.

He then added a strong mark in the 4x100 as the anchor leg, winning the heat in 40.38 and finishing third in the overall event.

After the strong meet performance, Cunningham is poised to continue his breakout year. At ACC Indoors, he finished as the runner up in the 200m and third in the 60m dash. He also scored points as a member of the 4x400 team.

Shannon Patterson also added a solid 200m dash, finishing fourth in 21.17 for an ACC qualifying mark. That's his second qualifying mark of the year. The sophomore hit the conference standard in the 100m dash at the Carolina Relays earlier this season.

Jumps:
Despite entering the finals of the triple jump in ninth-place, Javonne Antoine recorded a leap of 40'4.00" on her final jump to finish third in the event. This marks the third straight time that Antoine has cleared 40'. She is currently sixth in the nation in the event after jumping 41'1.75" at the first meet of the season.

Amara Bell recorded her best jump of the season, leaping 39'0.25". Bell finished eighth in the event.

Mid-distance:
Megan Moye opened her outdoor season with a second-place finish in the 800m run. The two-time All-American dominated her 800m heat finishing with a time of 2:07.67. Moye stretched out to a massive lead after the first 700m and held off the runner up's kick down the stretch.

Her time qualifies her for the ACC Championships and is currently ranked fourth in the nation.

Throws:
Joshua Davis added a fifth-place finish for the Pack in the hammer throw, nearing the 200' mark once again. He improved more than five-feet from his previous throw this season, finishing with a mark of 197'9".

Up Next:
NC State has another important weekend of competition up next with the team splitting into groups to compete across the country. The jumpers, sprinters and throwers will head to the Florida Relays, a few distance runners will travel to the Stanford Invitational and a mix of athletes will go to High Point, N.C., for the VertKlasse Meeting.
