NC State Concludes Carolina Relays with Eight Event Wins

CHAPEL HILL, N.C. – The NC State track and field team concluded the opening meet of the outdoor season with five more event wins and six qualifying marks at the Carolina Relays.
Throws:
After Davis finished third in yesterday's discus event, the redshirt sophomore won the hammer throw with a heave of 192'4". Davis now has conference qualifying marks in both the hammer and discus after the opening weekend of the season. David Rocker followed Davis with a second-place finish in the event with a throw of 165'1".
Jumps:
Javonne Antoine jumped to a new outdoor PR in the triple jump with a mark of 41'1.75". She won the event by 9.50" over the second-place competitor and the mark qualifies her for the ACC Championships. Antoine was coming off a fourth-place finish in the event at the ACC Indoor Championships, where she jumped 40'11.75".
Hurdles:
Dorian Williams opened his season with a second-place finish in the 110m hurdles. The sophomore crossed the finish line in 14.90, marking a .59 improvement from his time at last year's Carolina Relays meet. The sophomore is coming off an indoor season where he shaved .32 off his 60m PR from his freshman to sophomore season.
On the women's side, Alexis Perry added another event win and ACC qualifying mark. She finished first in the 100m hurdles in 13.81. Perry crossed the finish line .66 ahead of the second-place finisher.
In the 400m hurdles, Erin Jenkins opened his outdoor season with a fourth-place finish in 54.59.
Sprints:
The Wolfpack sprints squad added four event wins and three ACC qualifying marks on the final day of competition.
Following his strong outing at the ACC Indoor Championships, Shannon Patterson won the 100m dash and earned an ACC qualifying mark with a new PR of 10.65. UNC-W transfer Brandon McLean finished right behind Patterson in 10.73 for second place and also earned a conference qualifying mark.
On the women's side, Paisley Simmons won the 100m dash and reached the conference standard with a time of 11.88. Simmons won her heat by .32 of a second. In the opening heat, Perry, and J'den Williams swept the top-two spots, crossing the finish line in 12.31 and 12.37, respectively.
In the 400m dash, Brian Davis won the event, crossing the finish line in 49.01. NC State placed three in the top five, as Sam Krehnbrink and Cameron Cooper finished, third and fourth, respectively.
The women's 4x100 relay team was also victorious, as the quartet of Williams, Gabriele Cunningham, Tiana Patillo and Simmons won the event with a time of 45.97.
The men's 4x400 team of Davis, Quashawn Cunningham, Will Krehnbrink and Shannon Patterson finished second in 3:13.65.
Distance:
NC State placed three runners in the top-five standings of the men's mile. Tanis Baldwin, competing unattached, won the event with a time of 4:10.21. Fellow freshman and unattached competitor Ben Barrett finished 4th in 4:21.64, while Bobby Mintz took fifth in 4:22.86.

The Wolfpack will be back at home for the Raleigh Relays March 25th and 26th.
