Pack Drops Midweek to Indiana State, 11-7

No. 13 NC State baseball fell to Indiana State on Wednesday
The Wolfpack (14-5) fell behind 2-0 in the top second, before narrowing the gap to 3-2 through three. The Sycamores (11-6) submitted a six-run rally in the fourth to take command. NC State chopped the lead by three over the next two innings. Down 10-5 in the bottom seventh, the Pack trimmed the deficit to three, but couldn't get closer. An Indiana State run in the ninth set the final 11-7.
Stephen Pitarra contributed a career best 3-for-5 day with two runs and an RBI. Evan Mendoza scored twice in a 2-for-5 ballgame. Andrew Knizner drove in a pair over a 2-for-4 outing.
Preston Palmeiro doubled for the eighth time this year in a 2-for-5 day with an RBI. Josh McLain went 1-for-2 with a double, a run, an RBI, and two walks. Chance Shepard set a career high with four walks. Brock Deatherage walked once, scored once, and drove in one on a sac fly.
Wolfpack starter Cory Wilder left after 3 1/3. Cody Beckman relieved him and faced five batters. Chris Williams stemmed the tide by scattering three hits in 1 2/3.
Will Gilbert pitched the next two innings, allowing one eanred on three hits with three punchouts. Karl Keglovits worked an inning with one strikeout. Travis Orwig and Kyle Smith combined to pitch the last frame.
