NC State dropped a pitchers' duel Sunday at Doak Field at Dail Park
RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 8 NC State baseball fell 1-0 on Sunday in its series finale against Boston College at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Wolfpack (13-4, 1-2 ACC) loaded the bases with nobody out in the bottom of the ninth, but four Boston College (12-3, 2-1) pitchers managed to keep NC State off the board. BC scored the game's lone run in the sixth on back-to-back walks following a first and third situation.
Pack starter Johnny Piedmonte (0-2) took a tough luck loss after leaving with runners aboard in the sixth. Piedmonte's 5 1/3 finished one out shy of tying his career long. His six strikeouts were one shy of tying his career high.
Kyle Smith faced two batters before ceding to Cody Beckman, who worked 1 2/3 of one-hit ball, fanning three and walking none. Tommy DeJuneas punched out one and walked one in two innings without a hit allowed.
Shane Shepard doubled, the Pack's only extra base hit. Andrew Knizner, Joe Dunand, Stephen Pitarra, and Josh McLain each contributed a single.
NC State returns to action on Tuesday at 6 PM, hosting Indiana State. Streaming coverage will air on GoPack.com/watch. Radio duties will be handled by 88.1 WKNC. Fans can follow along with live stats on GoPack.com, or Twitter updates via @NCStateBaseball.
