NC State fell 7-0 to Boston College in its ACC opener
RALEIGH, N.C. - No. 8 NC State baseball stumbled to a 7-0 loss to Boston College on Friday at Doak Field at Dail Park.
The Wolfpack (12-3, 0-1 ACC) saw its nine-game winning streak halted as the Eagles (13-2, 1-0 ACC) stormed out to a 2-0 lead in the fourth. BC tacked on three in the fifth and two in the sixth to set the final.
NC State starter Joe O'Donnell (2-1) took the loss on six innings of work, allowing seven runs, only two of them earned, on nine hits and two walks with five punchouts. Travis Orwig went the rest of the way, scattering three hits over three shutout innings with three walks and two strikeouts.
Brock Deatherage led the offense with a 2-for-4 performance from the leadoff spot. Preston Palmeiro and Andrew Knizner each doubled. Brett Kinneman supplied his first collegiate hit. Evan Mendoza, Josh McLain, and Chance Shepard each contributed a single.
